Last Month’s Missile Strike at a Girls Elementary School in Iran Killed 168 People
The war between the United States, Israel, and Iran is still unfolding — but one heartbreaking incident is already drawing global attention.
On February 28, missiles struck a girls’ elementary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab during the opening hours of the conflict. Iranian authorities say as many as 168 people were killed, most of them young schoolchildren.
At the time, Iran blamed the United States and Israel. U.S. officials denied targeting the school, and President Donald Trump suggested Iran may have caused the strike itself.
Now, new reporting suggests the reality may be more complicated.
According to early U.S. intelligence assessments, American forces are “likely” responsible for the strike, though investigators believe the school may have been hit accidentally while targeting nearby Iranian military facilities.
The school was located close to sites connected to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, and analysts say outdated intelligence may have misidentified the area as a military compound.
The Pentagon says the investigation is ongoing.
The tragedy highlights one of the harsh realities of modern warfare: even in an age of precision weapons, mistakes — and devastating civilian losses — can still happen in the fog of war.
