State investigators returned this week to the New Mexico ranch once owned by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein—a remote property that has long been linked to disturbing allegations.

Authorities searched the sprawling estate south of Santa Fe as part of a renewed investigation tied to documents suggesting Epstein may have ordered the bodies of two foreign girls buried somewhere on the land. The claims remain unproven, but they’ve prompted a fresh look at the property.

At the same time, new questions are emerging about why a previous investigation into the ranch was halted.

Rep. James Comer said the federal government asked New Mexico officials to stop their probe in 2019—the same year Epstein was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges.

That request, Comer said, raises concerns about whether authorities missed opportunities to uncover evidence tied to Epstein’s network.

New Mexico lawmakers have since launched their own inquiry into the ranch, saying their goal is simple: reconstruct the full story of what may have happened there.

For many victims and advocates, the search represents a chance to revisit questions that have remained unresolved since Epstein’s death in jail later that same year.
